Good form design is invisible. It guides the user from start to finish without friction. bad design creates cognitive load and leads to abandonment.

Single vs. Multi-Column

In almost all cases, a single-column layout is superior. It creates a clear vertical path for the eye to follow. Multi-column layouts cause the eye to zigzag, increasing cognitive load.

Label Placement

Top-aligned labels are generally best for speed. They reduce the number of eye fixations required to process a question. Placeholder text should never replace labels, as it disappears when the user starts typing.

Action Buttons

The submit button should match the action. Instead of "Submit," use "Create Account," "Get Quote," or "Send Message." This reinforces the value proposition.
